How to wash and care for sportswear: 7 simple tips

For functional sportswear, windproofness, waterproofness and water repellency are extremely important qualities.
If you want your training clothes to stay high-quality, comfortable and durable, follow these guidelines:
1. Follow the correct washing instructions for each garment
Every garment has its own care instructions printed on the label. Before washing, it is always worth checking the instructions to avoid damage.
For example, some materials do not tolerate high temperatures, while others may require a gentler wash cycle.
Most sportswear is made from synthetic materials that do not tolerate hot water well.
That is why it is a good idea to wash such garments in cold water, which helps preserve their shape, colour and elasticity.
In addition, washing with cold water is more environmentally friendly.
2. Wash your clothes right after training
During training or other intense activity, clothes often become soaked with sweat. If such garments are left damp for too long, bacteria and unpleasant odours can develop quickly.
The best option is to wash your training clothes immediately after exercise. If that is not possible, air and dry them first to reduce bacterial growth.
3. Use a gentle detergent
Choose a detergent specifically designed for sportswear or delicate materials.
Avoid detergents containing bleach or fabric softeners, as they may damage the fibres and reduce elasticity.
Fabric softeners can leave a coating on the garments that reduces breathability and moisture management.

4. Wash clothes inside out
Turn your training clothes inside out before washing. This helps protect the outer layer from wear and pilling, while allowing the detergent to remove sweat and dirt more effectively.
5. Avoid tumble drying
Drying sportswear in a tumble dryer may damage its elasticity and shape.
The best option is to air dry your clothes, but avoid direct sunlight, as it may cause colours to fade and fibres to break down.
6. Use special laundry bags
Delicate materials such as thin tops and sports bras should ideally be washed in special laundry bags.
This helps prevent stretching and damage during the wash cycle.
7. Care for your clothes regularly
Regular washing and proper care of sportswear help your garments last longer.
It also helps prevent unpleasant odours and keeps your clothing fresh.
